Chemist consultation substance identification

For substance identification or CAS Registry Number® assignment:

Use our chemist consultation service when you need a CAS Registry Number or to find substance information for reports, proprietary files, online searching, confirmation for an International Nonproprietary Name (INN), or United States Adopted Name (USAN) application.

Supply us with substance names, CAS Registry Numbers, or structure diagrams (including a unique substance identifier limited to 20 alphanumeric characters), and our chemists will provide you with the following substance information:

  • CAS Registry Numbers (new or existing)
  • CA Index Names (new or existing)
  • Substance definitions
  • Molecular formulas
  • Structure diagrams
  • Synonyms

All requests are kept strictly confidential. Most requests are processed within 10 working days once all of the information for processing is received.

Please submit the consultation order form on this page and relevant chemical structure diagram/descriptive information.

Note: A unique substance identifier is requested for each substance to facilitate matching the results to your input information. (For example, your internal substance ID such as tradename, product code, or sequential numbering).

CAS Registry Services consultation

CAS Registry Services consultation provides substance identity information at a consultation rate. For CAS REGISTRY Number® retrieval or assignment, please see registration criteria, information requirements and attach a chemical structure diagram. If you would like both a CAS Registry Number and CA Index Name, please check the two appropriate boxes below.

Note: If you request assignment of a new CAS Registry number for a substance not already present in the CAS Registry system, that assignment will make your substance publicly available in CAS Registry®. Customer identity information will be kept confidential. If you wish to maintain confidentiality for your
Substance's identity, you should request only a CA Index Name or retrieval of an existing CAS Registry number.

Customer requesting information

A signature below is required before the requested consultation will be performed. This acknowledges acceptance of the CAS Registry Services Terms and Conditions, CAS Information Use Policy, and CAS Privacy Policy.

No other terms or conditions shall apply to this service, including any terms set forth in any Purchase Order submitted by Customer. Acceptance of a Purchase Order by CAS will be for payment purposes only and none of the terms in a Purchase Order will be binding upon CAS. Under no circumstances shall performance of the CAS Registry Services constitute acceptance of any additional or different terms.
